Reece Swanepoel is a Cape Town born, contemporary expressionist artist - a sculptor and painter, focussing on portraits and the human form. Raised by a single mother on the outskirts of poverty, even as a child, Reece was consumed with interest for information, properties of reality and the human condition - which is clearly conveyed in his work.
"My art is essential and necessary, just like the pains of life it often depicts. It gives one roots and keeps you grounded. I leave cognitive processes at the door ... because I want whatever I create to come from transparent, raw emotion. Emotion, especially empathy, stands at the centerstage of my work."
